L’innovation au service de l’exploration spatiale : plateforme expérimentale à gravité artificielle

🚀 On 8 October, the Italian Space Agency (ASI) announced plans for a dedicated orbital platform capable of generating artificial gravity levels from microgravity up to the Moon’s or Mars’s gravity. This responds to the legacy of DLR’s Eu:CROPIS mission, launched in December 2018 and completed in December 2019, which confirmed the critical need for artificial gravity research despite software issues limiting its full potential.

💡 ASI’s platform, designed to host modular experiments roughly the size of a few CubeSats, will support studies in life sciences, fluid dynamics, materials science, and planetary robotics—key fields for future human missions to Mars and the Moon. The agency has opened a call to the scientific community until mid-2024, emphasizing this research as a foundation for Europe’s ambitions in human exploration.

🤝 This initiative marries advanced tech and collaborative spirit, marking an essential step towards European space sovereignty and industrial innovation. While Eu:CROPIS paved the way, ASI’s project aims to overcome previous limitations and catalyze concrete progress. Exciting times for space research!
